Weidmann Expertise: Laboratory Services

The main laboratory is a service center within Weidmann Transformerboard
System AG, performing tests for the Electrical Technology Business Area.

The test specimen can be prepared in our own workshop.

Mechanical Tests

• Tensile and bending strength with universal testing machine force 20 kN, temperature range -40° to 200°C
• Tensile and bending strength with universal testing machine force 100 kN, ambient to 200°C
• Bursting testing equipment
• Bendtsen air permeability surface finish
• Surface hardness of plastics: Ball indentation test, Shore A + D.

Chemical Tests

• DP (Degree of Polymerisation) of cellulose and the viscosity grade of polymers
• Moisture content as per Karl Fischer of solid and liquid samples
• Nitrogen content as per Kjeldahl
• Thermoanalysis TA Instruments DSC Q1000
• Dissolved gas analysis (DGA) of transformer oils
• pH and conductivity of aqueous extracts
• Extraction

Optical Tests

• Particles contamination check with X-ray apparatus
• Sample preparation with Microtome
• Microscope, magnifying to x 500, equipped with a digital camera
• Identification of inorganic materials / metals with scanning electron microscope / EDX

Simulation of Environmental Conditions

• Thermal aging in ovens up to 300°C
• Climatic cabinet -40° C to 200° C, 0 to 100% relative humidity
• Artificial weathering with QUV and SUNTEST equipment
• Aging laboratory for long-term thermal aging in oil up to 150° C

Miscellaneous Tests

• Fibre length analysis as per Kajaani
• Melt flow index
• Spectrophotometer for colour measuring of plastic components
• Coulometric determination of the thickness of plating.
